"Welcome! I'm an Oxford History & Politics graduate looking to develop a career in political communications. I also work as a freelance web designer.
When I have spare time, I write about politics,
post-environmentalism, travel and art
In mid 2010, I was approached by Richard Stevens, a Labour County Councillor for Oxfordshire and Parliamentary Candidate in the 2010 election.
Richard was looking for an affordable and easy-to-mantain website in order to keep in order to communicate with his constituents and to build a positive profile for himself and the Party in the local area.
In particular, Richard was keen to have a design which reflected the Labour Party’s national brand whilst remaining distinctive. It was also important to him that the site was tightly integrated into the social networks which are an increasingly crucial avenue for communication between councillors and their constituents.
The completed site delivered on all of these objectives, retaining the Labour Party’s trademark red colour scheme, whilst making extensive use of gradients and lighter shades in order to create a sophisticated look.
The homepage design contained a space for local news stories, as well as providing a highly-visible central block which emphasised Richard’s role as well as signposting ways in which visitors to the site could contact him- one of the key reasons people visit websites of elected officials.
